Sri Lanka vs India
Sri Lanka Cricket administers and manages their national cricket team, popularly dubbed The Lions. Established as Ceylon in 1926-27 and accepting associate membership of ICC in 1965; team administration lies within Sri Lanka Cricket.
Sri Lankan cricket team is based out of Colombo and plays its home matches at R. Premadasa Stadium. Their colors – blue and yellow to symbolize Sri Lanka as an island nation; depictions of lion, which is the national animal, can be found both on captain’s armbands and jerseys of players; these have made Sri Lanka one of the major forces in world cricket since 1996, when they won the ODI World Cup; subsequent triumphs include two Champions Trophies and four Asia Cup titles; currently they rank eighth out of world ODIs while ninth for T20Is by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Sri Lanka and India have an illustrious history when it comes to one-day internationals (ODIs). Since 1995, they have met 168 times in ODIs; India currently leads 99-68. Sri Lanka last defeated India in an ODI back in 1997 when Arjuna Ranatunga led his side to win three-match series 3-0 under his leadership.
India vs Sri Lanka Scorecard
Sri Lanka and India played out an exciting opening T20I that left both teams fighting hard until the very last ball had been bowled. Sri Lanka were led by composed fifties from Dunith Wellalage and Pathum Nissanka to reach an impressive total of 230-8 from 20 overs, trailing by just three runs at this point in time.
However, things won’t be simple for Sri Lanka in their final five overs as they face an impossible target of 220 to chase. Indian spinners have bowled brilliantly and prevented any batsmen from hitting hard against them. Additionally, conditions on the wicket may help open it up further for spinners as sunlight shines down upon it and shines directly upon it.
Siraj has returned to the attack, bowling short lengths to keep the batsmen honest. He gets his ball to turn and dip but the batters still find it difficult to time it accurately; Siraj’s fourth over proved particularly effective as two singles were taken off it by visitors.
Axar Patel and KL Rahul have put India in an excellent position with their partnership of 71. While not rushing their runs or playing it safe, they’ve managed to keep India moving up the scoreboard at an enviable rate.
Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan do not appear comfortable at the crease. Their starts have not translated to big runs, thus necessitating an improvement on their batting in coming overs.
Shubman Gill steps in for Rohit and begins hitting hard, scoring one boundary off the last ball of each over but this was not enough for Sri Lanka – this being their second consecutive game without managing to post a decent total against India in an ODI, this is becoming an increasing concern for them as tourists and they must work on improving their batting abilities in order to deliver better performances in remaining matches of this series.
India vs Sri Lanka Highlights
After an exciting yet unpredictable match that saw momentum swing from side to side, Sri Lanka have managed to secure a TIE! Charith Asalanka used his review perfectly in trapping Shivam Dube lbw in front. Dube had plenty of time left before losing his wicket which brought the match right down to the wire!
Sri Lanka was in control early, losing only two opening batsmen within the Powerplay. Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis had formed an excellent opening partnership before Indian spinners recovered, with Axar Patel dismissing Mendis with an outstanding delivery, followed by Akila Dananjaya taking two wickets to keep Sri Lanka under control.
Sri Lanka responded quickly, however, and Dunith Wellalage and Asalanka both scored double-wicket hauls to put pressure back on India’s batsmen. Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli batted sensibly but never seemed in control of their chase.
Axar and Washington Sundar both took multiple wickets to keep their hosts at bay, but Sundar’s potential hat-trick was denied when his throw hit off the stumps instead of going straight through to him.
Final Sri Lanka National Cricket Team Vs India National Cricket Team Match Scorecard
Washington Sundar bowled an outstanding spell that denied Sri Lanka an opportunity to accelerate and seal victory for India.
As they attempted to avoid further blows, the visitors lost yet another wicket, with Kamindu Mendis’ edge falling foul of the keeper. But they still hold an impressive score on board and will hope to take this match through to its conclusion.
As Asitha Fernando bowled her second over for India and allowed nine runs in return, the other half of their side were back in the dugout – Shubman Gill taking his position alongside Riyan Parag who made his ODI debut today.
Smriti hits a reverse sweep four towards square leg to inch closer towards her half century; unfortunately Jemimah Rodrigues was out in the next over while trying to run two off one single run.
